What was the task
The client, the SPAR retail chain in Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad region, decided to create a digital retail platform with a custom loyalty program.
Based on the successful application, e-commerce direction was developed: in the context of the pandemic, the client promptly launched an online store. The MVP version of the app was a frame of the mobile version of the site.
Our team had to transfer the functionality of the website to the app, improve it and make the “Friends Club” app a full-fledged sales channel.
Solution
We have transferred the functionality of the website to a mobile app, creating a fully native online store with a user-friendly catalog, intelligent product search through barcode scanning, and a comprehensive order processing, payment, and delivery process.
The standout feature is the Wallet, SPAR’s own payment system, for convenient and secure payments for purchases. Users create their own Wallet and link a bank account to it. To link an account, users provide passport data, which is secured by a password or biometric authentication. Users can link multiple accounts from various banks and switch between them.
Wallet is replenished through the bank’s app, or users can pay for orders directly through Fast Payment System. To do so, simply show a QR code at checkout to deduct the order amount. If there is not enough money in the Wallet, the missing amount will be transferred automatically.
The Wallet balance is shown on the main page of the app, and users can view a history of transactions, filtered by type, period, and partner stores.
Another important option is to stop using printed receipts and care for the environment with SPAR. To do this, users only need to configure the option once and they will always receive electronic receipts. In the past year, SPAR has sent 1,881,253 electronic receipts to its customers. This has saved 611.5 kilometers of check tape, which is approximately 500,000 rubles.
Casual games and contests help to engage customers, encourage purchases through a prize system, and thusincrease SPAR’s sales. We will discuss how we implemented gamification in the application in this case.
Additionally, users can evaluate the service (which allows to adjust network staff’s performance) or the product they purchase — the average points for each product are sent to the product category managers. With ratings, it’s easy to improve ourstore’s assortment and recommend products that have received high ratings to customers, thereby expanding their shopping basket.
Results
We have been working on this project for 4 years, continuously developing and enhancing its functionality.
Since its launch in 2020, the number of orders and sales in the online store has increased 10 times.
During this time, we have expanded the “Friends Club” ecosystem with useful services and integrated the marketing efforts of the retail network with those of other local businesses. The app has optimized the costs for SPAR and their partners by making it easier to track user engagement and advertising campaign costs.
As a result, it has become one of the most popular apps in the region, serving as a full-fledged sales channel and winning 7 awards at key digital contests.
